What to Expect
Welcome to Mouw Family Chiropractic!
Our practice offers a warm, dynamic, welcoming environment for your care. We find it to be both calming and filled with positive energy for our practice members.
Our team members will take the time to get to know you and welcome you by name. You’ll have the opportunity to interact with each of our team members on a frequent basis, because of our open style of adjusting. Team members sit among practice members, lending to a community feel and facilitating a group learning environment.
When you’re here, you’re with family.
Your First Visit
For your convenience, forms for our new practice members are available online. You can complete the paperwork in the comfort of your own home and bring it with you to your appointment.
When you first arrive in our office, you’ll be greeted with a smile and a handshake and called by name. One of our team members will also take your coat for you. We strive to create a warm, friendly environment for your care.
We also offer a hot beverage bar, featuring coffee, tea and water.
One of our doctors will greet you and walk you back to the examination area. Together, you’ll review your paperwork. The doctor will also provide a consultation and examination, in addition to taking a detailed medical history. Your doctor will test your reflexes and flexibility and will perform other neurological, orthopedic, postural and physical tests to assess your condition. X-rays can be taken right in our office, if the doctor feels they are necessary.
In all, you can expect your first visit to last between 30-45 minutes.

Your Follow-up Visit
When you return to our office for your second visit, you’ll begin to see your care plan take shape. Your doctor will have you watch a short video and will then review with you the findings from your examination, including any X-rays.
You’ll also discuss your treatment recommendations and the plan for your chiropractic care, including what your cost of care might be.
If needed, our doctor will discuss coordinating your care with other providers to help you get the best results. Finally, the doctor will perform your chiropractic adjustment. You’ll receive a customized personal wellness program that may include exercises or stretches, recommendations for activities you should avoid and other lifestyle tips.
You should plan to stay 30-45 minutes for this visit.
Future Visits
For future appointments, you’ll be able to use our self-check-in feature and help yourself to our beverage bar.
You can then proceed to the open adjustment area for your adjustment and patient education. In addition to learning from our team members, we play an informative PowerPoint presentation to help you learn more about the specific benefits of chiropractic care. We also present a Daily Tip, to provide a quick bit of information for our practice members.
You may be concerned that beginning chiropractic treatment means you’ll have to see a chiropractor for the rest of your life. Whether you continue your chiropractic care is entirely up to you. Like regular exercise or healthy eating, most people find that the benefits of chiropractic are such that they want to continue their care. The longer you receive chiropractic care, the more benefits you’ll receive.
Your Chiropractic Education
Each week, we offer an orientation session for our new practice members. Held every Monday at 6:15 pm, this 30-minute workshop will help you get acquainted with the practice and will familiarize you with chiropractic care in general.
We also offer quarterly workshops on a variety of topics. Other events include dinner with the doctors and patient appreciation events. We enjoy spending time with our practice members and are happy to provide these learning opportunities.
Three Phases of Care
Your care plan will consist of three phases: Relief Care, Corrective/Restorative Care and Wellness Care.
Phase 1: Relief Care – During this first phase of care, our primary goal is to help relieve any pain you may be experiencing. Unfortunately, pain is a very poor indicator of health. Eliminating pain does not necessarily mean the underlying problem has been resolved. We should be able to eliminate your pain relatively quickly. Depending on the severity of your condition, it is typical to require care two to three times per week for four to 12 weeks.
Phase 2: Corrective/Restorative Care – Corrective care allows the muscles and other tissues to heal more fully, helping you prevent further injury. Typically, you’ll require care four to eight times per month for six to 24 months, depending on your overall health and the severity of the problem. You may begin doing exercises and stretches in the office or at home to help accelerate your healing.
Phase 3: Wellness Care – Once your body has fully healed, it’s important to come in for periodic adjustments to avoid future recurrence of problems and keep your body in optimal condition. These visits are usually very quick and are needed only one to four times per month, depending on your lifestyle and goals. You’ll be able to help your joints last longer and you’ll be able to engage in more of the activities you love.

The last thing we want is for you to come to our wellness center in crisis. We’d like to encourage you to take your health very seriously. As the old saying goes, “If you don’t have your health, you don’t have anything.” Unfortunately, too many people don’t discover how true that statement is until it is too late.
